Dr. Kelly is currently engaged in an all equine ambulatory practice based in Lomita, CA. He routinely rides his performance horses in the unique discipline of team roping where his particular enjoyment is heeling. These highly specialized equine athletes are often ignored, from a performance standpoint, in stark contrast to the dressage athlete. However, with Dr. Kelly’s keen eye and interests, he quickly became aware of the similarities in all athletes with respect to dental health, temporomandibular comfort and its relation to performance.

Dr. Kelly is a native of Colorado, born in the beautiful mountain town of Leadville. He received his DVM degree from Colorado State University at Fort Collins in 1969. He initially worked in large practices in both the Hemet and Chino area of California before settling in the city of Lomita. He has owned his own practice in Lomita since 1972.

Dr. Kelly’s special interest lies in equine dentistry and its enhancement to the performance of the equine athlete. He has specialized in dentistry for the past 13 years, before most people even realized its importance. He has previously volunteered time to teach uneducated but interested veterinary students at UC Davis for many years. He is currently assisting or teaching numerous clinics on equine dentistry.

In addition to his DVM degree, Dr. Kelly is also a “certified” Equine Dental Technician with the International Association of Equine Practitioners, the California and American Veterinary Medical Associations, the International Association of Equine Dentistry, and the Southern California Veterinary Medical Association, to name a few.
